Our Cement Walkways

Whether you're thinking of installing one, or simply need your walkway repaired, our crew can help! We've got the tools, the equipment, the crew, and the experience necessary to not only get the basics done right, but even add on a decorative finish before your deadline. Here's a little bit more about the services we offer below:

Installation

Here at K&O, we install walkways the way we do with most other concrete surfaces. While the process itself is fairly simple, it does take an experienced hand to get it done just right and ensure all the little details have been worked out.

We generally start by preparing the underlying soil. This keeps it from settling unevenly and damaging the concrete sidewalk on top. We'll grade the surrounding dirt and then dig out about eight to twelve inches of it. This hole is then filled with a layer of compacted gravel that will help protect the overlying slabs from freezing temperatures and moisture in the ground.

We'll then put forms into place. These act as a mold for any wet cement until it's strong enough to support itself, and are often made from wooden boards (or plastic strips if curves will be included) attached to stakes that have been periodically driven into the ground. A release agent is then applied that helps keep them from sticking to the concrete. Once everything has been poured and spread out evenly from corner to corner, we'll finish the surface using a "scree" and a "bullrake". Both these tools are designed to knock down ridges and helps smooth out deformities. Finally, a plastic sheet is laid over the entire thing , which helps it retain moisture as it continues to cure for a harder finish. Questions about how concrete walkways in Ogden Utah are poured? We'll then begin our work, starting at the edges of each section and working to the other side. After, we'll finish each joint to ensure that you're left with a nice, clean end result. Finally, once everything has been finished and the walkway has fully cured, we'll seal it to help it last over the years to come.

Stamped Concrete Sidewalks

A stamped concrete walkway in Ogden UT can be a beautiful addition to your home or business. These surfaces can be molded to imitate a variety of materials including wood, stone, and tile, and stained to give it a color that goes well with the rest of the property.

Here at K&O, we start this process by first checking on the cement slabs. We want to make sure that they're dry enough to support themselves, but moist enough that they can still be molded. Before beginning, we'll lay down a dust compound that adds color to the concrete and keeps it from sticking to our stamps.
How Long Does IT Last?
A stamped cement sidewalk in Ogden will last you for up to 30 years! This number depends on a variety of factors, such as location and the amount of sunlight it's getting, but resealing this surface every few years can really help it last!
Can I do It Myself?
Most concrete projects in Ogden can be done by a DIY'er, however, stamping is one that we wouldn't suggest trying on your own. Not only do you have to ensure that the cement is at the right stage of the curing process, but you'll also need to find the right products, prints, and seals. If you start and don't finish quickly, or even mess up a stamp, you may have to remove the entire section and pour it again or resurface the slab. Questions?
